Course content (PDF format)

Prerequisites: Quantum mechanics (level 221AB) and an introductory course on the level of Kittel's Introduction to Solid State Physics (e.g. 141AB).

Requirements: Tentatively six or seven problem sets (70% of grade) and one midterm exam (30% of grade). The midterm will be in class. There will not be a final exam.

Books: There is no required text. Reference texts are on reserve in the Physics Library. The following books should be useful as background sources:
